| Berisha celebrates a spectacular goal |
Ange Postecoglou announced an unchanged side from the one that picked up a vital win in Gosford last weekend against the league leading Central Coast Mariners. Besart Berisha continued his rich vein of goal scoring form, netting the opening goal in spectacular fashion after a dominant start from the boys in orange. Erik Paartalu delivered a precision pass over the top of the defence to pick out Berisha's run and the Albanian produced a stunning left footed volley as the ball dropped over his shoulder to break the dead lock. Phoenix produced an improved performance in the second half but were denied by Michael Theoklitos on a number of occaisions. Brisbane put the match beyond doubt though when Mitch Nichols fired home an impressive shot from outside the box to double the lead.
Brisbane have now moved back into second place and have closed the gap on the Mariners to five points. Next weekend they host Melbourne Victory who will have been buoyed by their win this weekend. In another crucial fixture the Mariners play the Phoenix who will be struggling for numbers after both Andrew Durante and Tim Brown picked up suspensions and an injury to Ben Sigmund.
Proia Stars On Debut For Roar Youth
Any doubts about how quickly it would take new signing Anthony Proia to settle into the Brisbane way of playing football were cast aside when he starred for the Roar youth team on Saturday. The youngsters stormed to an unbelievable 11:2 victory against the AIS in Canberra. Proia grabbed a first half hat trick before being subbed at the break. He wasn't alone with his treble though with out of favour first team winger Issey Nakajima-Farran and Matt Thurtell also reaching the mile stone. Kofi Danning and Jason Geria also netted for the Roar.
