Palmer Continues Pushing FFA Buttons

Players caught in the middle
of Palmer antics
Sadly another weekend of football stories will get pushed to one side thanks to the pathetic antics of Gold Coast United owner Clive Palmer.

This time out Palmer sent his players onto the field with their shirt fronts emblazoned with a freedom of speech logo.  In addition numerous advertising hoardings around the stadium carried the same logo.

In response the FFA were very, very unamused.  They have cited the club for a 'material breach' breach of their partition agreement which prevents them from displaying unapproved signage or playing in approved strips.  The FFA had earlier advised the club to remove the offending material but as we can see they did not.

The FFA has said that the issue will be dealt with further.

There has been little response from Gold Coast United on the matter.  Their CEO, Clive Mensink (aka fat bastard number two), had the gall to claim that it wasn't a message directed at the FFA but one in general support of free speech.  It's another indication of how utterly clueless this pair of idiots are because it still falls into the political statement category and is subsequently banned by FIFA rules anyway.

It seems Palmer is intent on goading the FFA into taking his licence off him so that he can indulge in his typical practice of suing someone.

The FFA has felt further pressure over the course of the week with Newcastle Jets raising further question about their way the club was sold to Hunter Sports Group.  In addition the PFA has added some support to Palmer's call for change.

Perth Glory owner Tony Sage has revealed that Palmer has been pushing for clubs to form a breakaway league.  Sage to his credit while wanting change in the way the league operates does not want to see this action or see the league run by the clubs.

The FFA have steadfastly stuck to their guns and seem intent on not taking the bait from Palmer.  They announced this week that they are close to meeting clubs with plans for a new operating model that will give the clubs more voice.

So now we wait for the next move in this sad and sorry saga.  Sadly I think we will get it before the weekend is over and chances are it will take yet the shape of another display of petulance from Palmer.
